Butthead figured out this whole sleeping in the tent thing and decided to give the rest of us a break and let us sleep in. Can’t beat waking up with the sun shining in your tent in the morning having rested peacefully thru the night.
Once everyone was up, Dad brewed some coffee and cooked up Mom’s most favorite camp breakfast…leftover Chili & Eggs. Then began the task of breaking camp. While Mom and Dad broke camp, I lazily napped in the morning sunshine and Butthead chased butterflies like a silly little girl. After getting the truck packed up we headed out towards Cloudcroft and another morning hike at the Cloud Climbing Train Trestle Recreation Area (http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/lincoln/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=34332&actid=50) .
This was a cool but touristy trail that overlooks the Mexican Canyon Trestle. An old wooden train trestle that was constructed in the early 1900s and operated til around 1947. Check out the History here: http://mexicancanyontresleproject.weebly.com/history.html
We ended our hike back at the replica Train Depot that also doubled as a potty stop for the humans. Before bringing our little family mini-vacation to a close Dad decided he wanted to take us to lunch at The Lodge (http://www.thelodgeresort.com/) . We enjoyed lunch on the patio overlooking the pool and the gardens… While waiting for their food to arrive Mom and Dad enjoyed some refreshments on the gazebo and watched another mountain thundershower rolling in.
Mom and Dad both enjoyed their meals very much while Butthead and I napped on the deck and captured the attention of passersby. The peeps at The Lodge were friendly and accommodating, but apparently the only way you can get dog friendly dining on the patio is if the bartender is willing to serve you. They weren’t really ready to serve people on the patio but lucky for us, the server/bartender on duty at the time liked us big doggies. The Lodge gets a 3 Paw Walter Pupproval rating for friendly peeps and good food.
