TOURISTS & TURKEYS IN TOMBSTONE – PART 1

Hi there peeps!  I hope y’all had a great Thanksgiving holiday!  Boy I sure did!  We had a great family vacation, in Tombstone, Arizona!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Yep!  Mom, Dad, Butthead and I headed out West for the holiday and caught up with Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Johnny Ringo and the rest of the rough and tough bunch in Tombstone.  What a totally PAWsome vacation it was!

We stayed at these super cute and BIG doggy friendly cabins right there on Allen Street called:  Katie’s Cozy Cabins (http://cabinsintombstone.com/) .  These little cabins are ‘cozy’ but had everything you needed for a convenient and restful stay in Tombstone and were just right for the four of us…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

They get a 5 PAW Walter PUPproval  rating from me, for BIG dog friendliness.  Only thing missing was a soft grassy and convenient puppy potty yard, but after holding it for a day and a half, I decided I can poop in the weeds if I need to.

When looking at the map on Google Earth, Mom had originally thought that we could take a short walk to the nearby City Park for some relief but when we got there we found this…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For a refined dog like myself, that’s the human equivalent of desperately rushing to the restroom only to find every stall occupied!  So a note to you peeps who don’t pick up after your pups (and I know that all of my blog pals would agree)…You are the reason there are signs like this!  You need to be ambassadors for promoting a dog friendly society; that means being polite and courteous at establishments that are dog friendly; teaching and training your pup to be polite, obedient, and non-aggressive towards people and other dogs;  AND being considerate of where your pup relieves themselves and pick up after them!  Think of it as having the courtesy of flushing the toilet after you’ve used it…you don’t want the next occupant to have to see or smell that would you?

OK, enough ranting and on with our fun trip!  With the exception of the City Park, we discovered that Tombstone is an extremely dog friendly town. Some places we did find, discriminate against us bigger boned pups as we found posted not so discreetly at this one shop…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And what happens when you are a big dog and your Mom is a CrossFitter?  She accepts the challenge and completely embarrasses you in public…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Since we arrived in Tombstone late afternoon, one of the first orders of business upon our arrival was of course to find a good saloon to wet your whistle after the long and dusty trail (er, the short comfortable drive on the interstate in my luxury K9 transport vehicle).  Always able to sniff out a great locals bar, Dad found the Dragoon Saloon (https://www.facebook.com/dragoonsaloonaz?fref=ts)….OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Where we were immediately greeted by super doggy friendly peeps Mr. Kraige and Miss Rachel, who offered us pups pints of fresh water, tons of biscuits, and plenty of ear and butt scratchies.  Mom and Dad enjoyed happy drinks by the outdoor fire pit while watching the sunset over the desert.  This was definitely my kind of hangout and we visited this waterin’ hole more than once…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dragoon Saloon gets a 5+ PAWS Walter PUPproval rating from me for super cool peeps, warm fire, and COOKIES!!  I also got this studly bandana…them bitches ain’t gonna be able to resist me now…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After the sunset, we picked up a genuine Tombstone Pizza to enjoy back at the cabin.  This wasn’t your Tombstone Pizza from the freezer section of the grocery store, this was a handmade pizza from Johnny Ringo’s Bar (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Depot-Steakhouse-Johnny-Ringos-Bar/463033250451445?ref=profile)…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A delicious looking pizza to say the least…tombstone pizza

Mom and Dad enjoyed their pizza with a cold brew; and all Mom thought to do was to take my picture as I drooled all over the floor staring at the half eaten slice on her plate!   As you can see, I was not at all amused…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We had such a grand time in Tombstone over the Thanksgiving holiday and met many great peeps, that I am going to have to share it all with you over 2 or 3 separate posts…so, stay tuned for Part 2 of our Thanksgiving in Tombstone!

Walter’s PUPproval rating criteria: 0 PAW – No Dogs Allowed; 1 PAW – Dog breed/size discriminatory; 2 PAW – Dogs accommodated but not really Welcome; 3 PAW – Dog friendly, but could be more welcoming; 4 PAW – Dog friendly, happy to see us, water offered; 5 PAW – Super Dog Friendly, water & treats offered, operated by dog lovers;
