MY TIME IN PURGATORY

HAPPY NEW YEAR PEEPS!  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!  This year we spent Christmas holiday in the frigid north country of Durango, Colorado.  It was a PAWsome time, but I am glad to be back here in the warm southern New Mexico climate.

Mom found this great BIG doggy friendly condo at the Durango Mountain Resort (aka. Purgatory), through Mr. Rich Reedy with Double R Property Management, LLC (https://www.doublerpropertymanagement.com/).  Mr. Rich was super cool and helped Mom find the right rental to accommodate all the family including us BIG dogs.

This was the amazing view from the condo…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Since it was right there on the slopes Mom and Dad just had to hike short way to one of the ski runs and ski/snowboard down to the main lift and lodge area.  While Mom and Dad hit the slopes Butthead and I got to lounge in the nice warm condo.  Since it was so close to the slopes it was easy for them to stop in a check on us during the day.  After they were done playing in the snow, Mom and Dad would take us out to romp and run…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Butthead seemed to like pouncing in the chest deep snow banks…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

while I preferred the nicely groomed slopes…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We also got to hang out at the base with Mom while watching all the skiers and snowboarders finishing up their final runs for the day…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was fun and refreshing to romp in the snow, but I was grateful to return to the warmth of the condo.  Double R Property Management, LLC and Durango Mountain Resort both get 5 PAW Walter PUPproval ratings for super dog friendliness and Mr. Rich Reedy for helping Mom find the right BIG Dog accommodations for our winter holiday!

We headed into town for one day and checked out the dog friendly shops in the downtown historic district.  There are tons of pet friendly places to shop and eat.  You can check out all the dog friendly places and things to do in Durango at http://www.360durango.com/Travel/DogFriendlyDurango.html or here http://www.durango.org/trip-planning/durango-pet-travel.aspx

After shopping and enjoying some lunch, Mom and Dad took us to the 5 acre Durango Dog Park.  This place was ginormous!  It was so cool, right down by the river and walking trails, where it overlooked the city…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There were cool hiking trails where we pups could hike off leash.  Even the bipeds and their wheeled contraptions were required to yield to us free running doggies! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course Mom represented us Southern NM pets well by picking up after us pups…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Durango Dog Park gets a 5 PAW Walter PUPproval rating for really cool features like the river access and hiking trails.

Walter’s PUPproval rating criteria: 0 PAW – No Dogs Allowed; 1 PAW – Dog breed/size discriminatory; 2 PAW – Dogs accommodated but not really Welcome; 3 PAW – Dog friendly, but could be more welcoming; 4 PAW – Dog friendly, happy to see us, water offered; 5 PAW – Super Dog Friendly, water & treats offered, operated by dog lovers;
